Surveys are a great way to make money in your spare time. To boost your survey opportunities it helps to have a couple of sites to use. So this week I have another survey site review, this time it’s for Prolific Academic.

An easy way to boost my income around baby duties, I love the flexibility online surveys offer. Both in terms of the times of day they’re available and the time required to complete (often as little as 3 minutes).

What is Prolific Academic?

It is a crowdsourcing site for researchers. They help academic researchers and start-ups collect data from the likes of you and me (survey participants). In return participants receive a reward (cold, hard cash).

Why use Prolific Academic to Make Money on Surveys?

You will only see surveys you are eligible for.

There is one pre-screening session then Prolific Academic filters surveys for you. There is no obligation to answer all of the questions AND you can even delete any answers you no longer wish to share.

As members are only presented with surveys they qualify for, no time is wasted starting surveys only to be disqualified later.

Low Payment Threshold

With a payment threshold of £5, it’s one of the lowest around. Payments are made via PayPal.

Good Rates of Pay on Surveys

Of the survey sites I have used so far I have definitely found the rates on Prolific Academic to be more generous. I particularly love that it converts the payment into a rate per hour, making it much easier to decide if the award is worth your time!

Reasonable Approval Times

On completion of a survey the reward will go to your pending balance awaiting researcher approval. I have found this generally takes a day or two. Some balances are even approved on the same day!

If a researcher is taking time with approval, Prolific Academic will automatically approve after 21 days and credit your account.

If you have issues, you can contact researchers

Anyone who has done surveys for some time will know that they can suffer technical issues (e.g. faulty links). Prolific Academic provides the option to contact researchers during a survey if you encounter problems.

You can use it to boost your charity donations

You can donate rewards to selected charities such as Cancer Research UK and Save the Children.

Who is Prolific Academic for?

Prolific Academic is perfect for those who don’t want to deal with the frustration of being screened out of surveys. If having to do multiple sessions of screening questions annoys you like nothing else, this is the survey site for you!

Final Thoughts on Prolific Academic

I have to say this is my favourite survey site so far. The decent reward rates make it easy to exceed the payment threshold in a relatively short space of time.

Surveys are available for completion on laptops, smartphones or tablets, which is pretty handy when you’re out and about. Where surveys must be completed using a laptop it is indicated at the start, saving you time.

Researchers if you are looking for participants for your research, check out Prolific Academic’s options for you.
